One part of the practical work is to improve the energy efficiency of these buildings. The EcoLiving Project team have been meeting with the Hall Committee and other user groups to discuss how the building works for them, and what the priorities for improving the energy efficiency and thermal comfort of the building should be. Our wish list is likely to be longer than we can afford, which is why we needed to consider priorities.

The other part of the practical work is to install small scale local power generating capacity - probably wind and solar. During June we invited Expressions of Interest from tradespeople and companies, to see who might be able to help us with this project.

On Friday July 19th there was an Inspection Day at the Community Complex and Early Childhood Centre. This was attended by representatives from about seven solar and wind companies, and a number of local tradespeople. We want to work with local tradespeople as much as we can, to support our local economy, and to keep the skills and knowledge for maintenance of the building within the community.

During early July we need to get firm prices from potential providers, so we can develop a Retrofit Plan that we can pay for. We will present this Retrofit Plan to a Stakeholders Meeting, Wednesday 8 July, 7pm, at the Supper Room. This will be a chance to check if we have missed anything. If you have an interest in this project, and developments at the Community Complex, please come along.
